FBRM and PVM investigations of the double feed semi-batch crystallization of 6-aminopenicillanic acid

摘要: 6-Aminopenicillanic acid (6-APA) is a crucial pharmaceutical intermediate in the chemistry of semi-synthetic antibiotics. The focused beam reflectance measurement (FBRM) technology and particle vision measurement (PVM) technology were employed to the processes of online-monitoring of 6-APA crystallization behavior in a double-feeding semi-batch crystallizer. Experiments were carried out with four kinds of double-feeding policies and the results were compared with the traditional single-feeding. Records and analysis of FBRM indicated that the nucleation of double feeding policy was much higher than single policy, and chord length of 6-APA was almost determined and had little change after the nucleation peak. Ostwald ripening process had no significant effect on further growth of 6-APA crystal. PVM images showed that the crystal habit of 6-APA was continuously changed during the crystallization process. The development of (002) face in the final crystal for the five feeding policies were different.

Effect of polyethylene glycol on the crystallization, rheology and foamability of poly(lactic acid) containinggenerated polyamide 6 nanofibrils

摘要: In this study, the rheological properties, crystallization and foaming behavior of poly(lactic acid) with polyamide 6 nanofibrils were examined with polyethylene glycol as a compatibilizer. Polyamide 6 particles were deformed into nanofibrils during drawing. For the 10% polyamide 6 case, polyethylene glycol addition reduced the polyamide 6 fibril diameter from 365.53 to 254.63 nm, owing to the smaller polyamide 6 particle size and enhanced interface adhesion. Rheological experiments revealed that the viscosity and storage modulus of the composites were increased, which was associated with the three-dimensional entangled network of polyamide 6 nanofibrils. The presence of higher aspect ratio polyamide 6 nanofibrils substantially enhanced the melt strength of the composites. The isothermal crystallization kinetics results suggested that the polyamide 6 nanofibrils and polyethylene glycol had a synergistic effect on accelerating poly(lactic acid) crystallization. With the polyethylene glycol, the crystallization half-time reduced from 103.6 to 62.2 s. Batch foaming results indicated that owing to higher cell nucleation efficiency, the existence of polyamide 6 nanofibrils led to a higher cell density and lower expansion ratio. Furthermore, the poly(lactic acid)/polyamide 6 foams exhibited a higher cell density and expansion ratio than that of the foams without polyethylene glycol.

A study on rapid acid chrome black (MB 7) spectrophotometric determination of ClO

摘要: Experiments were conducted to investigate the degradation of 2,6-dinitro- -cresol (DNPC) in the chlorine dioxide (ClO ) catalytic oxidation process. Pure aluminum oxide was used as the catalyst in this process. The degradation of DNPC by ClO using aluminum oxide as catalyst was systematically studied by varying the experimental parameters, such as pH values, catalyst dosage, the initial concentration of DNPC and ClO , reaction time, etc. Under optimal condition (DNPC concentration 39 mg·L , ClO concentration 0.234 g·L , reaction time 15 min, catalyst dosage 4.7 g·L and pH 4.32), almost complete degradation of DNPC can be achieved. The kinetic studies revealed that the ClO catalytic oxidation degradation of DNPC followed pseudo-first-order kinetics with respect to both ClO and DNPC concentration. The repetitive use of the catalyst was investigated along sequential feed-batch trials. The catalyst performed efficiently after five runs. In addition, a simple and convenient method for the determination of ClO in water was developed by using acid chrome black 7 (MB 7) spectrophotometry in this paper.

Magnetic KIT-6 nano-composite and its amino derivatives as convenient adsorbent for U(VI) sequestration

摘要: Although mesoporous silica with magnetically hybridized two-dimensional channel structures has been well studied in recent years, it remains a challenge to fabricate the counterpart with macroporous three-dimensional cubic structures since the highly acidic preparation conditions lead to dissolution of magnetic particles. Herein, we successfully prepared magnetic KIT-6 nano-composite and its amino derivatives by bearing acid-resistant iron oxide. The prepared materials exhibited excellent properties for U(VI) ions removal from aqueous solutions under various conditions. The experimental data show that the U(VI) adsorption features fast adsorption kinetics, high adsorption capacity and ideal selectivity toward U(VI). The adsorption process is of spontaneous and endothermic nature and ionic strength independence, and the adsorbents can be easily regenerated by acid treatment. Compared to pristine KIT-6, the introduction of magnetism does not reduce the efficiency of the material to remove U(VI) while exerting its role as a recovery adsorbent. The findings of this work further demonstrate the potential broad application prospects of magnetic hybrid mesoporous silica in radionuclide chelation.

Cytokine storm and translating IL-6 biology into effective treatments for COVID-19

摘要: As of May 3, 2023, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has resulted in more than 760 million confirmed cases and over 6.9 million deaths. Several patients have developed pneumonia, which can deteriorate into acute respiratory distress syndrome. The primary etiology may be attributed to cytokine storm, which is triggered by the excessive release of proinflammatory cytokines and subsequently leads to immune dysregulation. Considering that high levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) have been detected in several highly pathogenic coronavirus-infected diseases, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome in 2002, the Middle East respiratory syndrome in 2012, and COVID-19, the IL-6 pathway has emerged as a key in the pathogenesis of this hyperinflammatory state. Thus, we review the history of cytokine storm and the process of targeting IL-6 signaling to elucidate the pivotal role played by tocilizumab in combating COVID-19.

FERM domain-containing protein FRMD6 activates the mTOR signaling pathway and promotes lung cancer progression

摘要: FRMD6, a member of the 4.1 ezrin–radixin–moesin domain-containing protein family, has been reported to inhibit tumor progression in multiple cancers. Here, we demonstrate the involvement of FRMD6 in lung cancer progression. We find that FRMD6 is overexpressed in lung cancer tissues relative to in normal lung tissues. In addition, the enhanced expression of FRMD6 is associated with poor outcomes in patients with lung squamous cell carcinoma (n = 75, P = 0.0054) and lung adenocarcinoma (n = 94, P = 0.0330). Cell migration and proliferation in vitro and tumor formation in vivo are promoted by FRMD6 but are suppressed by the depletion of FRMD6. Mechanistically, FRMD6 interacts and colocalizes with mTOR and S6K, which are the key molecules of the mTOR signaling pathway. FRMD6 markedly enhances the interaction between mTOR and S6K, subsequently increasing the levels of endogenous pS6K and downstream pS6 in lung cancer cells. Furthermore, knocking out FRMD6 inhibits the activation of the mTOR signaling pathway in Frmd6−/− gene KO MEFs and mice. Altogether, our results show that FRMD6 contributes to lung cancer progression by activating the mTOR signaling pathway.

RNA m6A modification and its function in diseases

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most common post-transcriptional RNA modification throughout the transcriptome, affecting fundamental aspects of RNA metabolism. m6A modification could be installed by m6A “writers” composed of core catalytic components (METTL3/METTL14/WTAP) and newly defined regulators and removed by m6A “erasers” (FTO and ALKBH5). The function of m6A is executed by m6A “readers” that bind to m6A directly (YTH domain-containing proteins, eIF3 and IGF2BPs) or indirectly (HNRNPA2B1). In the past few years, advances in m6A modulators (“writers,” “erasers,” and “readers”) have remarkably renewed our understanding of the function and regulation of m6A in different cells under normal or disease conditions. However, the mechanism and the regulatory network of m6A are still largely unknown. Moreover, investigations of the m6A physiological roles in human diseases are limited. In this review, we summarize the recent advances in m6A research and highlight the functional relevance and importance of m6A modification in in vitro cell lines, in physiological contexts, and in cancers.

Antibacterial and anti-flaming PA6 composite with metathetically prepared nano AgCl@BaSO

摘要: In this study, a facile and environmentally friendly method with low energy consumption for preparing nanoscale AgCl and BaSO co-precipitates (AgCl@BaSO co-precipitates) was developed based on the metathetical reaction. Then, the dried co-precipitates were melt-compounded with polyamide 6 (PA6) resins at a specified mass ratio in a twin-screw extruder. The results demonstrated that in the absence of any coating agent or carrier, the nanoparticles of AgCl@BaSO co-precipitates were homogeneously dispersed in the PA6 matrix. Further analysis showed that after the addition of AgCl@BaSO co-precipitates, the antibacterial performance, along with the flame-retardance and anti-dripping characteristics of PA6, was enhanced significantly. In addition, the PA6 composites possessed high spinnability in producing pre-oriented yarn.

A systematic survey of LU domain-containing proteins reveals a novel human gene, LY6A, which encodesthe candidate ortholog of mouse Ly-6A/Sca-1 and is aberrantly expressed in pituitary tumors

摘要: The Ly-6 and uPAR (LU) domain-containing proteins represent a large family of cell-surface markers. In particular, mouse Ly-6A/Sca-1 is a widely used marker for various stem cells; however, its human ortholog is missing. In this study, based on a systematic survey and comparative genomic study of mouse and human LU domain-containing proteins, we identified a previously unannotated human gene encoding the candidate ortholog of mouse Ly-6A/Sca-1. This gene, hereby named LY6A, reversely overlaps with a lncRNA gene in the majority of exonic sequences. We found that LY6A is aberrantly expressed in pituitary tumors, but not in normal pituitary tissues, and may contribute to tumorigenesis. Similar to mouse Ly-6A/Sca-1, human LY6A is also upregulated by interferon, suggesting a conserved transcriptional regulatory mechanism between humans and mice. We cloned the full-length LY6A cDNA, whose encoded protein sequence, domain architecture, and exon‒intron structures are all well conserved with mouse Ly-6A/Sca-1. Ectopic expression of the LY6A protein in cells demonstrates that it acts the same as mouse Ly-6A/Sca-1 in their processing and glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchoring to the cell membrane. Collectively, these studies unveil a novel human gene encoding a candidate biomarker and provide an interesting model gene for studying gene regulatory and evolutionary mechanisms.

G protein-coupled receptor LGR6 is an independent risk factor for colon adenocarcinoma

摘要: LGR6 is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor family that plays a tumor-suppressive role in colon cancer. However, the relationship between LGR6 expression in patients and clinicopathological factors remains unclear. This study aimed to clarify whether the expression level of LGR6 is correlated with colon adenocarcinoma progression. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect LGR6 expression in colon adenoma tissues ( = 21), colon adenocarcinoma tissues ( = 156), and adjacent normal tissues ( = 124). The expression levels of LGR6 in colon adenoma and adenocarcinoma were significantly higher than those in normal colon epithelial tissues ( <0.001). Low LGR6 expression predicted a short overall survival in patients with colon adenocarcinoma (log-rank test, = 0.016). Univariate and multivariate survival analyses showed that, in addition to N and M classification, LGR6 expression served as an independent prognostic factor. Thus, low expression of LGR6 can be used as an independent prognostic parameter in patients with colon adenocarcinoma.

Single and joint effects of HHCB and cadmium on zebrafish (

摘要: As an important type of emerging pollutants, ecological toxicity and risk of artificial musks are increasingly concerned. Thus, single and joint toxic effects of 1,3,4,6,7,8-hexahydro-4,6,6,7,8,8- hexamethylcyclopenta-gamma-2-benzopyran (HHCB) as one of the most widely applied artificial musks and cadmium (Cd) as an toxic metal on zebrafish ( ) were investigated by the exposure of zebrafish to various concentrations of HHCB or/and Cd in feculent water containing bedloads. The results indicated that the joint effect of HHCB and Cd changed during different exposure times within 120 h. The index of the antioxidant enzyme system including superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD), and malondialdehyde (MDA) were sensitive and induced in the zebrafish stressed by Cd, and content of soluble protein (SP) was sensitive to HHCB and could be used as a biomarker for HHCB. Joint effects on antioxidant enzymes depended more on the effect of single Cd in the first one or two days. However, in the rest exposure days, the effect of HHCB began to dominate in the joint effect during the exposure process.

摘要: 同时,第六代(6G)移动通信系统已成为备受学术界和工业界瞩目的重要领域,前景广阔。与5G相比,6G可实现更快的接入速率(10~100倍以上)、更低的接入延迟、更广泛深入的通信覆盖以及更优的能量和频谱效率,使得天线和射频(RF)系统的材料、工艺、技术及形式不断演进。在此背景下,中国工程院院刊《信息与电子工程前沿(英文)》(FITEE)特组织并刊发了“后5G与6G天线系统技术演进与创新”专刊。该专刊涵盖天线、无源和有源器件及系统、传播和信道以及材料和算法等方面,频率涵盖6 GHz乃至太赫兹。专刊旨在回顾天线相关技术发展现状,明确未来发展趋势。作为5G技术演进的延续,6G以其高数据速率、低延迟等特点备受关注。张建华等通过分析几种新兴6G技术和应用,阐述了6G信道模型的发展趋势,展望了6G信道测量和建模的未来发展方向。

All-inorganic TiO/CsAgBiBr composite as highly efficient photocatalyst under visible light irradiation

摘要: In recent years, limited photocatalysis efficiency and wide band gap have hindered the application of TiO2 in the field of photocatalysis. A leading star in photocatalysis has been revealed as lead-free Cs2AgBiBr6 double halide perovskite nanocrystals, owing to its strong visible light absorption and tunable band gap. In this work, this photocatalytic process was facilitated by a unique TiO2/Cs2AgBiBr6 composite, which was identified as an S-cheme heterojunction. TiO2/Cs2AgBiBr6 composite was investigated for its structure and photocatalytic behavior. The results showed that when the perovskite dosage is 40%, the photocatalytic rate of TiO2 could be boosted to 0.1369 min–1. This paper discusses and proposes the band gap matching, carrier separation, and photocatalytic mechanism of TiO2/Cs2AgBiBr6 composites, which will facilitate the generation of new ideas for improving TiO2’s photocatalytic performance.
